Job markets, AI-native consulting, content creation, and focus
Saman, Omid, and Sirwan discuss the UK and Swedish job markets, AI-native legacy modernisation, YouTube content creation, and the role of lifestyle in focus.
Participants: Saman, Omid, Sirwan
Job Markets in Sweden and the UK
We started by comparing the software job markets in Sweden and the UK.
Omid shared his experience of applying for .NET roles. We also discussed the current opportunities and challenges for software developers in both countries.
AI-Native Consulting and the Future of SaaS
We discussed why consulting could become more valuable.
AI-assisted development makes it easier and faster to build software. As a result, more people may decide to build their own solutions instead of paying for several software subscriptions.
At the same time, large AI and cloud platforms are becoming more integrated. They can connect to services such as Salesforce, financial systems, and other business tools.
These platforms could let users build useful software inside one ecosystem. This could make some standalone SaaS products less valuable or more difficult to defend.
However, this change could create more opportunities for consultants.
Many organisations, especially banks and companies in established industries, still use legacy systems. These organisations need help to move to modern and AI-native technology stacks.
In the past, large software migrations often required complex and specialised codemods. LLMs can now help with a large part of this work.
YouTube and Content Creation
We also discussed content creation as another possible source of income.
I shared the example of my new geography YouTube channel.
I am preparing for an exam, but I find it difficult to concentrate on a textbook for a long time. To make the learning process easier, I started converting the material into short visual videos.
The experiment worked better than I expected. With little effort and only a few tools, I created two YouTube Shorts. Each video received about 2,000 views.
Lifestyle, Activity, and Attention
Omid and I also discussed lifestyle and attention span.
We talked about daily movement, gym activity, and the importance of having a routine that supports concentration.
I shared some lifestyle changes that have helped me feel more focused and capable. These changes include taking some supplements and experimenting with a ketogenic diet and also importance of intermittent fasting.
Ideas for Future Sessions
We finished by discussing what these weekly sessions could become.
We still enjoy the informal discussions. However, we could also try more practical sessions in the future.
For example, we could live-code a project together and publish the result.
Not everyone was still on the call when we discussed this idea. Therefore, we decided to leave it open and discuss it again with the wider group.
